The Nephite government collapses after the chief judge is murdered, leading to the people dividing into tribes and widespread wickedness. A secret combination led by Jacob gains power. Amidst this apostasy, Nephi preaches repentance, performs miracles, including raising his brother from the dead, and many are baptized.
