Prosperity leads to pride, division, and secret combinations
After a period of peace and prosperity, the Nephites succumbed to pride, wealth, and class distinctions, leading to the breaking up of the Church. Satan gained influence, stirring up wickedness among the people. Wicked judges secretly murdered prophets and formed secret combinations to overthrow the government and defy the law.
