Nehor Introduces Priestcraft; Gideon Slain; Church Endures Persecution

Alma 1 details the rise of Nehor, who preached false doctrines, including priestcraft, and contended with the righteous Gideon. Nehor tragically slew Gideon, leading to his own trial and execution by Alma. Despite Nehor's death, priestcraft and persecution continued to spread, but the faithful members of the Church remained steadfast, diligently working and sharing their substance with the needy, thus prospering in peace.
