Judges Chosen; End of Kings' Reign
King Mosiah proposes a new system of judges to replace kingship, warning of the perils of unrighteous rulers and advocating for individual liberty and accountability. The people accept his counsel, choosing judges by their own voice, and Alma the Younger is appointed as the first chief judge. This marks the end of the reign of kings among the Nephites.
