Samuel's Escape, Nephi's Ministry, Hardened Hearts

Samuel the Lamanite, protected by the Spirit, preached repentance from the city walls, leading many to be baptized by Nephi. Despite Samuel's miraculous protection and Nephi's powerful ministry, the majority of the Nephites hardened their hearts against the prophets' words. Even with great signs and angelic appearances, many scoffed at the prophecies of Christ's coming, calling them a wicked tradition. Satan actively worked to stir up contention and unbelief, further hardening the people's hearts against the truth.
