Nephites boast in strength, reject repentance; Mormon refuses to lead, Lord promises vengeance.
Mormon pleads with the Nephites to repent and return to the Lord, but they harden their hearts. After a victory against the Lamanites, the Nephites boast in their own strength and swear to avenge their fallen brethren. Due to their wickedness and lack of faith, Mormon refuses to lead them further. The Lord declares that vengeance is His and warns that the Nephites will be cut off from the earth.
