3 Nephi 3
Giddianhi, the leader of the Gadianton robbers, sends an epistle to Lachoneus, the Nephite governor, demanding surrender and threatening destruction. Lachoneus, a righteous leader, refuses to yield and instead calls his people to repentance, prayer, and to gather in fortified lands. He appoints Gidgiddoni, a prophet, as chief captain, who wisely counsels against offensive warfare, urging defensive preparations.
