Wickedness Leads to Lamanite Victories and Dwindling Church
In Helaman 4, internal dissensions and wickedness among the Nephites lead to significant military defeats against the Lamanites and Nephite dissenters. The Nephites lose much of their land, including Zarahemla, and are driven back to the land of Bountiful. Their losses are attributed directly to their pride, riches, oppression of the poor, and disbelief, causing the Spirit of the Lord to withdraw from them. Moronihah, Nephi, and Lehi preach repentance, and a portion of the Nephites repent, allowing Moronihah to regain half of their lost possessions.
